1974 verbringt der 70-jährige Surrealist Salvador Dalí (BEN KINGSLEY) wie jedes Jahr zusammen mit seiner Frau und Muse Gala (BARBARA SUKOWA) ein paar Monate im St. Regis Hotel in New York. Der junge Galerieassistent James Linton (CHRISTOPHER BRINEY) wird von Dalí überraschend gebeten, ihn bei den Vorbereitungen für eine neue Ausstellung zu unterstützen. Und damit führt der Weg direkt in das schillernde DALíLAND, eine von Models, Musik- und Filmstars sowie einer bunten Mischung aus High und Low Society bevölkerten Welt. Im Zentrum der alternde exzentrische Künstler Dalí, der alle mit seiner Genialität beeindruckt, und gleichzeitig eine berührende Verletzlichkeit offenbart, besonders in Hinblick auf seine Frau. Als Gala sich in einen aufstrebenden jungen Musical-Star verguckt und ihn großzügig finanziert, riskiert sie damit nicht nur den gemeinsamen Ruin, sondern bringt auch die fast fünfzigjährige Ehe ins Wanken. Im Mittelpunkt von DALíLAND stehen die späteren Jahre der seltsamen und faszinierenden Ehe zwischen Salvador Dalí und seiner tyrannischen Frau Gala, als ihre scheinbar unerschütterliche Bindung zu zerbrechen beginnt. Dabei wird als Gegenpol zur Glam-Rock-Ära Manhattans der 1970er in einer Reihe von Rückblenden die Geschichte der intensiven Liebe von Dalí und Gala gezeigt.

In 1974, 70-year-old surrealist Salvador Dalí (BEN KINGSLEY) is spending a few months at the St. Regis Hotel in New York, as he does every year, with his wife and muse Gala (BARBARA SUKOWA). The young gallery assistant James Linton (CHRISTOPHER BRINEY) is surprisingly asked by Dalí to support him in the preparations for a new exhibition. And with that, the path leads directly to the dazzling DALíLAND, a world populated by models, music and film stars, and a colorful mix of high and low society. At the center is the aging eccentric artist Dalí, who impresses everyone with his genius, while at the same time revealing a touching vulnerability, especially with regard to his wife. When Gala falls for an up-and-coming young musical star and generously finances him, she not only risks their mutual ruin, but also upsets their nearly fifty-year marriage. DALíLAND focuses on the later years of the strange and fascinating marriage between Salvador Dalí and his tyrannical wife Gala, as their seemingly unshakable bond begins to break down. In the process, the story of Dalí and Gala's intense love is shown in a series of flashbacks as a counterpoint to Manhattan's glam rock era of the 1970s.
